Previous Carbon Silk designs
Dark ‘designer’ edition
This was the design set for Carbon Silk, however I felt that the dark site took away the focus of the content and thus continued with a minimal white design.
Grid long header edition
I was particularly happy with this design, it displayed a very unique, and distinctive grid that seemed to balance particularly well.
Grid square logo edition
An iteration of the previous design, toying with a square logo, which proved to be problematic with the outlined grid structure.
Dark minimalist edition
A fresh look at designing with a dark background allowing more space for the content to breathe. Again, I felt the light-on-dark failed to do the content justice.

Wow, I love the grid square logo design. Btw, how did you eventually using this final design instead of your mockups?
Thanks @Daus! I loved that one too, i just couldn’t reach a stage of being happy with it as it just seemed unbalanced. This design came through by accident/organically. I installed a stock version of wordpress and got posting with a mind to focus on content over form (for the first time). I quickly created a custom basic two column layout and got that uploaded. This was then iterated upon until we have what you see today. I didn’t use the other designs mentioned as i felt they did not serve the content as well as this version.
